Mini-Video: The Power of Stories

My recent presentation to high school students

I hope you gain something from this little video. More and more, I am speaking at various engagements, but I especially enjoy talking to young people. Hopefully, they will be equipped with the knowledge that I did not have at the same age. Life should be easier than what I experienced.

Your story is life as you understand it, with goals, characters, and some self-perception of the past. Most people are telling themselves the wrong story based on many factors, but those of us with mental illness face unique challenges. Many times, others cast us in an unfriendly light, and as individuals we can absorb and internalize that negativity.

Regardless of who you are, you need to be living a story of your choosing where you are the hero. It is important that we look at our lives as more than a collection of random occurrences. One of the primary takeaways here is to improve your mental health you must understand who you are. Investigate your motivations and assumptions. Trust me, I do not enjoy taking video of myself, but I have several reasons for posting this. So, check it out and share it if you wish.
